Personally, I'm going through the Romans (Volume 1 & 2) from The Daily Grace Co. to help me be more prepare for our discussion. You are welcome to do it as well or do your own study or just show up to see how the Spirt leads. In my study, it starts with this about Romans:

This Is The Gospel

Romans is the gospel. It is sixteen chapters of gospel truth. It is hard to imagine that any book of Scripture has impacted the world so much as the book of Romans. Theologians have examined it. Preachers have proclaimed it. Sinners have been transformed by it. So why should we study Romans? We should study Romans because it is the words of God. We should study Romans because it will transform us.

The book of Romans holds an important place in church history. From Augustine to Calvin, history is full of Christians that have gone before us and proclaimed the treasure of this book. Many of them asserted that Romans is the key to understanding the entire Bible. Martin Luther said of Romans:

"This epistle is the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest gospel, which indeed deserves that a Christian should not only know it would for word by hear, but deal with it daily as with the daily bread of the soul, for it can never be read or considered too much or too well, and the more it is handled the more delightful it becomes and better it tastes."

The book of Romans is a letter, or an epistle. It was written by Paul to believers in Rome that were both Jew and Gentile, and it is believed to have been written from Corinth. The book is full of quotations and allusions to the Old Testament. Paul was a Jew who was also a roman citizen, so he was uniquely equipped by God to deliver this message at the exact time. It is estimated to have been written in approximately 56-57 AD. Written during a time period in which Rome was the center of the world, it proclaims the power of the gospel, justification by faith, and the life of the new covenant people of God.

Romans set forth Christ as supreme and the answer to our sin and depravity. Paul exquisitely shows us the beauty of grace and the magnitude of God's holiness. It explains to us that we are justified by faith. It helps us to understand the eternal plan and purpose of God for His people. it skillfully details for us what the Christian life should look like, and it points us forward to our future hope. The book of Romans is the gospel.

As we pour our hearts into the study of the book of Romans, we will be transformed by god's grace and be overwhelmed by His abundant mercy to us. We will weep in repentance over our sinful condition, and we will rejoice in the cross. We will be moved to worship and compelled to adoration and thanksgiving. Our hearts will be centered on the gospel and life in awe of God's sovereign grace.
